In heavy-duty engine mechanics, a stud is a large, high-tensile steel rod threaded at both ends. Its primary function is to securely anchor and clamp the cylinder head (or massive exhaust manifolds) down onto the main engine block.

This component works directly in tandem with the cylinder head gasket (like the 282113 code we looked at earlier). The stud must be tightened to an extremely precise torque specification to provide the exact clamping force needed to crush the gasket, thereby sealing in the ultra-high-pressure combustion gases. Because these studs are subjected to constant thermal and mechanical stretching, Jenbacher maintenance protocols often require them to be strictly measured or replaced during major overhauls to prevent them from snapping under load.
