Just like the exhaust seat this component is a precision-machined metal ring permanently pressed into the cylinder head. Its purpose is to provide the perfect mating surface for the intake valve (code B00203307) to seal against when it closes.

Although the intake side does not have to endure the scorching temperatures of exiting exhaust gases (since it handles the incoming fresh air or air/gas mixture), its seat still plays a critical role. It guarantees a flawless seal during the compression and combustion strokes, preventing the immense cylinder pressure from escaping back into the intake manifold. Additionally, it helps stabilize the valve and dissipate its heat. Along with the exhaust seat, it is a primary component inspected and replaced during major cylinder head overhauls to restore the engine's original efficiency.
